4-Day Tour to the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve in the Amazon Jungle

This four-day tour takes you to the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve in the Amazon jungle, where you will meet shamans, visit indigenous communities living traditionally, and explore the diverse nature of the Amazon. Discover the depths of the Amazon!

Day 1: Meeting at the airport to take the first flight with TAME from Quito to Lago Agrio, the center of Ecuador's oil industry. The flight takes about 30 minutes. From Lago Agrio, you will be picked up by a private bus driver. A drive of about 2.5–3 hours brings you to "El Puente" (Bridge over the Cuyabeno River / entrance to the Cuyabeno Reserve). From here, you will continue by canoe on the Cuyabeno River (about 1 hour). Around 5:30 PM, we will arrive at the beautifully designed and comfortable Tapir Lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at Tapir Lodge (full board).

Day 2: In the morning, we will take a 3-4 hour hike through the fascinating flora of the primary rainforest. This first hike will bring us close to the "Laguna Grande" (Great Lake), where you can see countless ancient trees, giant palms, bromeliads, orchids, and various bird species. Lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, we will explore the surroundings of Laguna Grande by motorized canoe and enjoy the unparalleled sunset. At dusk, accompanied by fishing bats, we will return to the lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at Tapir Lodge.

Day 3: Today, we will visit a shaman from the Cofán community and his family. We will learn about the medicinal use of plants and the shamanic rituals for healing. We will also take a rainforest hike in "Terrafirme" and have the opportunity to see the poisonous poison dart frog (Dendrobates), as well as macaws and toucans. On the way back upstream, we will visit the small Siona-Secoya settlement and learn about their way of life. We will have lunch boxes for the day. In the late afternoon, we return to the lodge. There is an opportunity to fish for piranhas. In the evening, with the help of our flashlights, we will go on a search for caimans.

Day 4: Right after breakfast, we will travel upstream by motorized canoe to the boat dock on the Cuyabeno River. From there, we continue to Lago Agrio to catch the 4:40 PM return flight to Quito.

All equipment for the Ecuador mountain tour (Ecuador Trekking) can be stored in Quito.
