Samburu Safari (+3 Days)

The Samburu and Buffalo Springs National Reserves often feature high wildlife densities. The Ewaso Nyiro River, winding like a green ribbon between the two reserves, is their lifeline. Perennial springs in Buffalo Springs Reserve provide water even during dry seasons. Situated at 800–1,500 m altitude, expect warm to hot daytime temperatures. Located 100 km north of Mount Kenya and far from crowded safari hubs (Nairobi, the coast, Masai Mara), this safari offers a relaxing, warm experience following the Mount Kenya Trekking.

Itinerary

Day 1 • Mount Kenya – Samburu
Midday drive from the base of Mount Kenya to the Samburu area. After leaving the mountain’s wetter region, the road descends into arid bushland. Arrive at your cozy accommodation in the park by dinner.
- Overnight: Double Room/Full Board in Samburu River Camp / Samburu Sopa Lodge (Standard) or Elephant Bedroom (Premium).

Day 2 • Samburu/Buffalo Springs
Morning and afternoon game drives in search of wildlife on both sides of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Common sightings include elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalo, antelopes, and plains zebras. Northern specialties: reticulated giraffes, Grevy's zebras, gerenuks (giraffe gazelles), Somali ostriches, and Beisa oryx.
- Overnight: Double Room/Full Board in Samburu River Camp / Samburu Sopa Lodge (Standard) or Elephant Bedroom (Premium).

Day 3 • Samburu – Nairobi
Morning game drive, then a relaxed return to Nairobi via Mount Kenya. Accommodation (double room, breakfast) covered by the Mount Kenya Trekking program.

Day 4 follows with the last Day of Mount Kenya Trekking (return flight or further program extension upon request).

More time for Safari, Safari only?

• Add an extra day to the safari for better wildlife viewing and more time to enjoy the lodge.
• Family or friends not joining the Mount Kenya program can depart from Nairobi the day before to meet you.

We offer this extension in two categories: Standard and Premium, with a highly qualified driver-guide for both options.

Categories

Standard:

• Samburu River Camp (riverside) or Samburu Sopa Lodge.
• Well-maintained 4x4 minibus for transport.

Premium:

• Elephant Bedroom Camp (luxury tents by the river, spaced apart for privacy).
• Travel in a luxurious 4x4 safari Land Cruiser.
