Overview

Mount Everest - South: Follow the path of the first ascent in 1953 of Edmund Hillary and Norgay Tenzing through the beautiful Khumbu valley. The climbing starts just above the base camp at 5700 meters above sea level with the Khumbu icefall, then follows the Valley of Silence into Khumbu flank to reach the last camp at South Col, already almost 8000 meters high. Summit Day is long and the route at parts very exposed. The key technical point on the famous "Hillary Step" is just below the summit. With good preparation, good weather, and some luck we stand together, at 8848 meters above sea level, on the summit of the world. We are your expedition provider with a fair price, excellent staff, and vast experience on Mount Everest: Felix Berg, Dan Mazur & our sherpa-team are committed to your success.

Itinerary Everest South - Ascent from Nepal

We follow the classic route of the first ascent in 1953. In the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, we trek through the Khumbu Valley to the base camp, then navigate the Khumbu Icefall, ascend the Lhotse Face to the South Col, and from there, follow the Southeast Ridge to the summit. This is the route with the least technical difficulty to the summit of Mount Everest and has become the established normal route. However, the ascent remains a serious undertaking that requires thorough preparation. The 50-day itinerary can be adjusted upon request.

Descent to around 4.000 m / 13,000 ft altitude into the green Khumbu valley. At the Sonam Lodge in Pangboche, our local base in the Khumbu region, we can have a good rest.

We should be down for at least two full days in order to recover well and allow the acclimatization to take full effect. Of course, there can be some delays due to weather conditions or personal reasons. These decided rest days should be before the summit push.

We go back up to Everest Base Camp to prepare for the summit push.

ascent to the 3rd high camp and overnight stay (7,300 m / 23,950 ft)

A full 17 days to reserve in case of bad weather or for better acclimatization. With a bit of luck, we can save these and you can travel back earlier or enjoy the rest of our time celebrating. We do not recommend calculating too tightly from the start.

Today we pack up the base camp and leave Mount Everest at the latest.

Prepare

Climbing Mount Everest requires thorough preparation, and you should meet the prerequisites outlined here. We can tailor your participation to your abilities and expectations – we’re happy to advise you on your preparation and plan together how to make your dream of Everest a reality.

In General

Expedition, 8000m, Everest, very cold, windy, extreme altitude, technically moderately difficult, Seven Summits mountain, the highest.

Temperatures

Trekking to Everest Base Camp:
• From subtropical to alpine climate
• In base camp, temperatures can drop to -10°C at night

In the Everest region, in the Western Cwm, it can get very warm (feeling like +30°C in the sun), while in the shade or at night, temperatures can drop to -20°C. The coldest section is from the South Col during the summit attempt:
• Night/morning temperatures can reach as low as -35°C
• With wind chill, temperatures can feel like -60°C

Gear

For participation in the Everest Expedition, each participant requires the personal equipment recommended here (Download).
!

Important information about this expedition

Each participant takes part in this expedition independently and at their own risk:

  • The extreme altitude and cold bring with it extremely subjective (due to the lack of oxygen) and objective (weather changes, cold, etc.) dangers!
  • Rescue possibilities are extremely limited.

Participation requirements

Requirements: Altitude experience from several expeditions and an above-average physical condition are necessary.

  • Full-service-members: You should have 7000 m+ / 23'000 ft+ high-altitude experience and be an independent mountaineer (alpine tours at least AD according to UIAA scale), have experienced camping ad cooking in the wintry conditions. Ice techniques, glacier travel with crampons, and alpine climbing techniques er needed. You should have knowledge of crevasse rescue techniques and of frostbite symptoms, high altitude sicknesses, and their basic treatment.
  • Basic-members: To climb Mount Everest without supplementary oxygen and Sherpa support, you should have successfully climbed at least one 8000m+ peak in a similar style.
  • Less experienced, you can only join with a 1:1 guide, and personal training prior to climbing Mount Everest should be considered.
Mountaineering skills
Stamina / Endurance
  • Allgemein

  • Technical requirements

The greatest difficulties on the three steep steps are defused by means of fixed ropes (Khumbu Ice Fall, Hillary step). Rope-free access to 45° steep snow and firn flanks and rock climbing up to UIAA2 must nevertheless be mastered absolutely safely. In particular, securing on the fixed rope with ascenders and abseiling techniques must be mastered absolutely safely (with thick gloves!).

    Physical Fitness

Stages of several days must be completed and you must be able to assess your strength and reserves well. During the night at the last camp at South Col, 8,000m (26,247 ft) and during the summit ascent temperatures around -40°C plus wind-chill-factor can be expected. For the summit day, an ascent of about 8-12 hours followed by a descent of 3-6 hours must be completed.

Lack of comfort: We climb at high-altitude, still health and fitness must be maintained. We will help you with this. Your personal organization and preparation are necessary to stay healthy and fit during the expedition.

Testimonials

Everest Experience: Since 2005, we have been one of the constantly represented international operators on Mount Everest in Nepal. Already in 1991 our SummitClimb partner Daniel Mazur climbed Mount Everest via the Nepalese route, we have been organizing expeditions in Nepal. By 2023, we have expanded the SummitClimb infrastructure in Nepal and as recently as 2021 our CEO Felix Berg climbed and guided Mount Everest in a 100% sucessful 3 days climb, 5 day expedition from Nepal.

  • I have climbed with SummitClimb on three expeditions now (Cho Oyu, Everest and Dhaulagiri) and I can safely say that I love them. Basically what I find the main difference being that the top end companies hold your hand far too much. With Summit, you can climb on your own or if you dont feel comfortable, with someone else. Obviously the ability to climb alone will depend on your own ability, confidence and level or expertise etc. As it says on th... read more

  • Thanks again for a fantastic Everest Nepal trip. Versus what Alan Arnette's website cites as a 67% summit attempt success rate, our 100% success rate is awesome!

  • Awesome team. The combination of Dan and David’s extensive experience meant that our summit was quiet with only a handful of us at a time on the top, avoiding the crowds, making it an even more magical experience. The Sirdar, Tenji, has something like 20 summits under his belt and is an awesome individual who leads his Sherpa team with expertise and respect. Great value for money too.
