Itinerary Expedition Event "Palü"
Trip Itinerary Xvent Piz Palü (3 Days)
Drive to Diavolezza, ascent to the mountain hut Berghaus Diavolezza (2,974 m.a.s.l. - 9,770 feet), dinner together, expedition theory.
- Meeting point: tba - in the hut or on the way
- Meeting time: until 16:30 / 17:00* - last cable car to the hut
The valley station of the Diavolezza is located directly on the Berninapas road. In the triangle between Zurich, Milano, and Munich the station is accessible by the Rhaetian Railway or via the well-developed road network. So you can reach our Xvent both by car and comfortably by train (stop Bernina Diavolezza). In case you have a longer way to travel to Switzerland, we are happy to discuss additional training days in the mountains or travel arrangements around this event.
*The train runs in winter every 20min between 8:30 and 16:30, from 27. 02. between 8:00 and 17:00.
Breakfast at 9:00, consultation, packing gear, ascent for a "high camp" bivouac.
After some theory, we will set out to set up our high camp on the Pers Glacier before dark. As on expeditions, we may have to adapt the program to the weather and the current conditions. Accordingly we will choose the spot to camp/bivouac.
Early start from the bivouac, mountain tour - whether it's a mountain tour to Piz Palü or rather a practical training session, we will decide based on the conditions and the group composition - and/or training, followed by the journey home.
After evaluating your performance on the mountain (both technically and in terms of endurance), you will receive feedback on which further training steps are useful for your expedition preparation.
Prepare
The preparation for expedition mountaineering is at the heart of this event. We will discuss the general schedule, expectations, typical nutrition for expeditions, and also tactics and equipment to stay dry, warm, and efficient even in extreme cold. Then we will conduct a practical test with a winter bivouac. In theory, we will focus intensively on the rules of acclimatization, symptoms of altitude sickness, and finally, the treatment of various forms of altitude sickness. We will also cover technical aspects of high-altitude mountaineering, such as traversing fixed ropes during ascents and descents and the construction of high-altitude camps.
Participation
Basic mountaineering knowledge is required so that we can tailor your preparation optimally. Usually, there are different skill level groups and multiple guides.
Test your gear
Recommendation: Bring the equipment planned for your expedition. This way, we can evaluate your personal gear in terms of its suitability.
Service: We also offer affordable rental and purchase of quality equipment.

Testimonials

Costs & Services
Expedition participants can participate in this event (the price is basically to cover expenses and organization). If you are just interested to meet us, you can book at regular costs, and if you join an expedition after the event will receive this difference as credit.
