ABC Trek - Tibet

The goal of our trip is to get to reach Mount Everest ABC (Advanced Base Camp) at 6,300 m+ / approx. 21,000 ft. altitude. The journey itself is unforgettable: the breathtaking Rongbuk Valley, the majestic view of Everest’s North Face, and the unique experience of life at the Base Camp (BC). Each is a remarkable highlight in its own right. The actual trek, interspersed with smaller hikes along the way, starts at the Base Camp. From there, it leads through an intermediate camp before reaching the Advanced Base Camp (ABC), offering an extraordinary adventure at the foot of the world’s highest peak.

Documents & Visas

• Passport: Must be valid for at least six months beyond the travel dates.
• Nepal Visa: Required for entry into Nepal (30 days, approx. USD 50).
• China Visa: Necessary for entry into Tibet (approx. USD 245).
• Tibet Travel Permit: Included in the tour package and arranged by the organizers

Equipment & Rental

In addition to complete mountaineering clothing, the basic equipment should include:

• a warm sleeping bag with a comfort range down to -15°C
• a down jacket for insulation
• warm hiking boots for rugged terrain

Participation requirements

Trekking at an altitude of over 6000m is demanding. Good physical fitness and an average level of fitness are required for participation. You do not need to have extensive mountaineering experience.

Comfort: Participants need to be prepared to live with the very basic conditions on the road to Tibet (China) and during the trek to ABC stay in simple tents. Flexibility for local conditions, delays, transportation, official regulations, or bad weather should be brought along.

Tibet / 6000m+: The rapid ascent to the Tibetan Plateau can lead to altitude sickness. The open handling of physical sensations is required and the intake of DIAMOX is generally recommended.

Fragen zum Everest Tibet Trek:

You should never be alone while trekking, and at least one Sherpa (with radio communication) should always be near you. We have an expedition leader (from the Mount Everest expedition), plenty of local staff, and many participants from the Mount Everest expedition itself. Our goal is not to "force" the group into a particular pace (since that wouldn’t suit most people). In that sense, the tour is "independent."

You must communicate any concerns regarding altitude and health and be able to assess yourself to a certain level. This is similar to hiking with a mountain guide in the Alps, who typically oversees no more than three guests on the mountain. As part of this Everest Base Camp Trek, you participate "at your own responsibility", but of course, we will look after you and organize the entire logistics of the trip to Mount Everest.

No, crampons are not necessary for the Everest ABC trek. Many items can also be rented in Kathmandu (Nepal). Local down and fleece products can be purchased cheaply in Kathmandu. Branded products are often cheaper and better sourced in Europe or in the US.

Journey to Everest in 2024 during our first expedition

Testimonials

Everest - Tibet ABC Trek: Since 2004, we have regularly organized Everest expeditions on the north side and accompanied this exclusive Everest Base Camp trekking journey. Exclusive in the sense of being unique, remote, and exotic. Some of our leaders, such as Daniel Mazur and Oscar Cadiach, have experience in Tibet dating back to the 1990s, when China had not yet undergone modernization. Away from the tourist crowds in Nepal, we guide our expedition climbers on the north side of Everest to the highest base camp in the world.

Tibet has been largely closed to tourists from 2020 to 2024 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Chinese regulations. For 2025, this tour will have a certain pioneering character, as there is uncertainty regarding entry and the granting of permits. Starting in 2026, we plan to offer regular scheduled departures for north-side trekking tours on Mount Everest.

Danke ... read more
