Ascent on Aconcagua

6000m-peaks in South America

The Andes boast approximately 120 peaks over 6,000 meters. Our head guide and organizer in the region has climbed more than 80 of these impressive summits. Here are some of our most popular destinations in South America:

Aconcagua (6,962m / 22,841 ft): A challenging trekking expedition leads us to the highest peak in South America. While the Normal Route is the most traveled, the Polish Glacier Route (a 360° traverse with descent via the Normal Route) is also a popular option. The South Face, a highly demanding climb, is rarely attempted. Join us for an expertly guided ascent of Aconcagua, led by top 6,000m specialists in South America.

Chimborazo (6,267m / 20,561 ft): A glacier trek over 6,000m combined with Ecuador’s diverse landscapes makes for an unforgettable mountaineering and travel experience. The expedition includes ascents of Iliniza, Cotopaxi, and Chimborazo. This demanding trekking journey can also be combined with a Galápagos vacation.

Alpamayo (5,947m / 19,511 ft) & Huascarán (6,768m / 22,205 ft): Two of Peru’s most challenging peaks, climbed in alpine style under the leadership of an IVBV-certified mountain guide. Alpamayo (5,947m), voted the most beautiful mountain in the world, is a stunning yet technically demanding peak. After a well-earned rest in Huaraz, we take on the region’s highest mountain, the nearly 7,000m-high Huascarán.

First ascent of a 6000m-peak in Shimshal, Pakistan

6000m-peaks in Asia

Nepal is home to over a thousand peaks above 6,000 meters, depending on prominence criteria. Of these, around 300 mountains are open for climbing, as all summits above 6,000m require a permit. The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has designated 33 trekking peaks in the 5,500–6,600m range, which can be climbed with a simple trekking permit.

Some of the most well-known 6,000m trekking peaks, which we frequently guide expeditions to, include:

  • Mera Peak (6,476m / 21,198 ft)
  • Imja Tse / Island Peak (6,165 m / 20,226 ft)
  • Lobuje East (6,119m / 20,075 ft)

Pakistan boasts thousands of 6,000m peaks, though the exact number depends on how prominence is defined. With four major mountain regions—the Himalayas, Karakoram (Pakistan’s main mountain range), Hindu Kush (bordering Afghanistan), and the southern Pamir foothills in Shimshal—there are countless opportunities for exploration, all starting from Islamabad.

Central Asia: We regularly organize expeditions to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, where many impressive 6,000m peaks await ambitious climbers.

6000m + Exploration

Expertise: Feel free to contact us if you're planning an expedition to an exotic destination. Our experts have successfully organized and climbed over 100 mountains (out of approximately 120) above 6,000m in South America. In Asia, we’ve tackled numerous challenging 6,000m peaks and would be happy to discuss the logistics of an expedition there as well.

Expedition Leaders: We have a team of highly experienced guides for your 6,000m dream. For our tours with 6–8 participants, an experienced SummitClimb expedition leader will oversee the expedition, ensuring proper group organization and leadership. For smaller groups, the leadership is taken on by a local mountain guide.
